Airfix QUICK BUILD is an exciting range of brick-based models suitable as an introduction to modeling for any age of 6 and up. The pre-colored pieces simply push together to build an impressive model which can then be decorated with the included self-adhesive stickers. No paint or glue is needed to make these fantastic models look like the real thing, and once completed there's no evidence of any of the brick fittings showing. When built they are tough enough to be used as toys, or smart enough to use as display models. Either will show off those great modeling skills! Included with each model are a full set of easy-to-follow color instructions, free-rolling wheels for cars and tanks, and display stands for all aircraft.
The Sherman Firefly was a British modification of the American M4 Sherman tank, designed to address the shortcomings of the standard Sherman when facing the formidable German armored vehicles during World War II. Equipped with the powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun, the Firefly was capable of penetrating the armor of the German Panther and Tiger tanks, which had proven resistant to the standard 75mm Sherman gun. This adaptation transformed the Firefly into one of the most effective Allied tanks, giving it the firepower needed to counter Germany's armored threats.
The Sherman Firefly first saw action during the Normandy Invasion in June 1944. Its impact was immediate and significant, as it provided the Allied forces with a much-needed boost in anti-tank capabilities. The Firefly's long-range accuracy and powerful gun allowed it to engage German tanks from a distance, reducing the risks of close-quarters combat. This capability proved crucial in the battles following the D-Day landings, particularly during the intense armored engagements in the Bocage countryside, where German tanks had previously dominated.
The Firefly continued to play a critical role in subsequent campaigns across Western Europe, including Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. During these operations, the Firefly's ability to take on the heaviest German tanks helped to shift the balance in favor of the Allies. Its presence on the battlefield boosted the morale of Allied tank crews and provided a significant deterrent to German armored counterattacks. By the end of the war, the Firefly had established itself as a key component of the Allied armored forces, contributing significantly to the overall success of the ground campaigns in Europe.
With authentic markings and precise craftsmanship, this 1:35 scale QUICKBUILD model brings to life the Firefly's role in the critical engagements of World War II. It is an essential piece for collectors and military history enthusiasts, commemorating the legacy of the tank that helped turn the tide against the formidable German armored divisions.
